Introduction to Creative Metropoles

We are opening a new theme, Creative Metropoles. This will be the discussion platform for experts and coordinators of the 11 partners of this INTERREG IVC (www.interreg4c.net) funded project. The involved cities are: Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Birmingham and Wolverhampton, Helsinki, Oslo, Riga (Lead Partner), Stockholm, Tallinn, Vilnius and Warsaw.

Project aim:

The project will showcase the key elements of what makes a well-functioning, focused, flexible and efficient public support system for creative industries in the participating cities by looking at good practices in both policy and practical tools.

The project will contribute to an increased understanding of the elected decision-makers and the executive level about creative industries – their role in the overall economy, how they work – as well as increase the awareness about the different policies and approaches that have a positive impact on the growth and development of the creative sector.

Focus:

The project is focused on experience exchange among the involved municipalities in 1+4 policy areas:
1. structure of the public support for creative industries (coordinated by Tallinn)
+
2. business capacity and internationalisation of creative industries (Stockholm)
3. space for activities by creative industries and creative city districts as creative incubators (Warsaw)
4. funding schemes for creative industries (Birmingham+Wolverhampton)
5. demand for the outputs of creative industries, including municipalities in the role of consumers (Helsinki)

Further information on the 5 themes around which the experience exchange is organized and contacts to the themes coordinators can be found in the Creative Metropoles knowledge base

The central component of the project is the Exchange of Experience (coordinated by Warsaw) and it encompasses actions aimed at identifying, analyzing and exchanging good practices, as well as developing concrete measures based on the knowledge gained within the project.

This component is supported by information and dissemination activities (coordinated by Riga) aimed at sharing the knowledge accumulated in the project with external partners as well as to facilitate internal information exchange. Finally, the Lead Partner – Riga City Council’s Department of Culture – also coordinates the project management component.
